Brief history of Iwama Aikido Australia
The fouder of Aikido taught Daito Ryu Aiki Jujitsu prior to the second world war (First image). In the 1940's O'Sensei moved to the small rural town of Iwama. During this time the founder's martial arts practice undertook a transformation and Aikido was established in its own right.
Morihiro Saito Sensei practiced with the Aikido founder from the age of 18 until the founder's passing in 1969 (Second). He continued to train and teach in Iwama as the designated head of the Iwama Dojo until his own passing in 2002. Other styles of Aikido exist as they were passed on through other students of the founder.
Micheal Field Sensei undertook several uchideshi (live-in) training in Iwama. Iwama Ryu Aikido Australia was established by Micheal Field Soke (January 14, 1947–October 30, 2018) as the designated Iwama Ryu representative for Australia by Morihiro Saito sensei (Third).
Peter Sceney began practicing aikido under the tutelage of Micheal Field in 1989 and established Perth aikido in 2005. Peter also undertook severval uchideshi trips to Japan training with Nemoto Sensei. (Forth)

Keith began training in aikido as young child, being taught by his father Frederick Gates. He also practiced some other martial arts during his teenage years. Keith's father, Fred practiced aikido starting in the early 1960's, receiving his Dan ranking under Kazuo Chiba, who had been sent to the UK by the founder in 1966. Keith began practicing aikido again at Perth Aikido in 2006 receiving his shodan in 2014 and his second degree blackbelt in 2016. Keith also trained as an uchideshi (live in student) on three separate occasions with Nemoto Sensei in Iwama in Japan. He has also travelled frequently to various seminars conducted by Michael Field and others.

Keith's practice emphasises the solid, robust fundamental training of Iwama aikido. He believes that through aikido training many important non-physical lessons can be embodied and that fundamentally martial arts training is a method of self improvement.
